will say anything, he will do anything. the same is true with his running mate, paul ryan. unfortunately, we'll probably hear more of that this week. we do have a great surrogate team and they're on the ground in their respective cities or states. they move around. i certainly move around. you talk about deval patrick, i'm in chicago, rahm emanuel, stephanie rawlings-blake in baltimore, kasim reed, the list goes on and on. we have the best candidate in president obama and vice president biden. we have the greatest surrogate team, and they're on the ground in those places where there are real people with real issues and real problems, and they're talking about the things that the president talks about, jobs and the economy, health care, education, energy, and tax reform. those are the president's themes. he's never walked away from any of those issues, and it's easier, i think quite frankly, for mitt romney to have multiple positions on the same issue because he has no plans. he has no ideas. he has no proposals. he's not ready for prime time. >> okay. we've got a month to go. please spre

conservative. six months after mitt romney, he chose the eeb more conservative paul ryan as his running mate. fast forward from wednesday. we heard from a very different mitt. here is some that would have earned him jeers from a republican audience. >> regulation is essential. you can't have a free market work if you don't have regulation. >> what we did in massachusetts is a model for the nation, state by state. >> so which mitt romney will voters be choosing if they give him the vote, the severely conservative guy or the regulation is essential, barely mentioned fall ryan mitt romney. i actually think the answer bying is nothing else mitt romney said on wednesday. >> something this big, this important has to be done on a bipartisan basis and we have to have a president who can reach across the aisle and fashion important legislation with the input from both parties. i'm going to work together with congress to say okay, what are the various ways we could bring down deductions. we have to work on a collaborative basis. not because we're going to compromise our principle, but because the

to go. we know what direction we want to go. we want the paul ryan budget which cuts spending $6 trillion. the republicans in the house have passed 24-plus bills that create jobs and opportunity and strip out regulations. we just need a president to sign this stuff. and pick a republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become president of the united states. >> you know, that's not an unfair shot. he basically believes he has those pledges in his pocket. he knows he can control fiscal policy in the congress with or without the new president. he's got romney's arms tied in the same way that the religion right has his arms tied on abortion rights, same-sex, the way the knee oepow cons have his arms tied in terms of foreign policy. >> one question either the moderate or obama should ask, name one issue in which you plan to puck your party, one issue in which you plan to stand up to house republicans, one issue in which you don't plan to govern as a severe conservative as you described your record in massachusetts before you were describing your record as a bipartisan br

following, virtually every time mr. romney spoke, he misrepresented the platform on which he and paul ryan are actually running. that's quite a statement. and a new york magazine jonathan challenged romney over his economic plan that seems to rely on some magical numbers and thinking, quote, so romney is a candidate of a 20% cut in tax rates, a new plan to cover people with pre-existing conditions and higher defense spending and he will accomplish it all by eliminating federal funding for pbs. the question is can obama and his team win the post debate debate by highlighting some of this nonsense and romney's fuzzy language? willy brown is the former mayor of san francisco, former speaker of the house out there. joan walsh is editor at large or salon and the author of "what's the mat we are white people." i want to get to these points. can you win on the fact having lost perhaps on performance value? >> it's very, very difficult to get people in the world observing politicians to overcome to the substance. they always go for style. they always are influenced by performances, and i beli
